(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday approved the declaration of a state of national calamity following the devastation left by Typhoon Tino as the death toll from the storm rose to 114.

After meeting with disaster officials in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, Marcos said the number of areas affected by Tino in the south, and those likely to be hit by a super typhoon expected in the country’s north over the weekend led him to declare a national calamity.
